Fourth Sunday of Easter
We Gather as the Body of Christ
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND FUNNY STORY
CALL TO WORSHIP
In scripture, the metaphor of God as shepherd is used many
times. But in our world, where our only experience with sheep might be seeing them in a field while we are out for a drive in the country, it might be hard for us to immediately grasp what this means.
The spiritual invitation of the metaphor – God is our shepherd – is
to consider how it is that we need someone to lead us, guide us, and protect us. Someone to show us the best place to lie down for rest and the better place to find life-sustaining nourishment.
As we worship this day, allow God, our Shepherd, to lead
you…guide you…and protect you…Let us worship God together.
HYMN: “The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want”
#136 UMC HYMNAL
Divine Shepherd, we come to you, in worship, like sheep, which need to be led. We are hungry, O God. Lead us to good grazing land, where we can be nourished in your love and grace. We are weary, O God. Lead us to the green pastures where we can lie down and find our spiritual rest. We are weak, O God. Lead us with your strength into your goodness and mercy. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Know that while we experience the suffering and struggles of
this world, we do not have to endure it alone. Christ has both suffered for us and has been an example to us, so that we should follow in his footsteps.
May the grace of Jesus remind you that by his wounds we are
healed. May the love of God reassure you that you are not alone, no matter how difficult or overwhelming the circumstances. And may the power of the Holy Spirit renew you this day and every day. Amen.
