CENTERING WORDS

(Ps 84, Eph 6)

How lovely is the dwelling place of God! May our hearts become a place where God’s Spirit lives. May our words become bold words of love and grace. And may our worship be worthy of the Lord.

CALL TO WORSHIP  (John 6)

Sharon Stewart - Liturgist

When Jesus was teaching the disciples and others, many chose to leave him, for his teachings were too difficult and involved too much sacrifice. Jesus asked the twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” And Simon Peter, on behalf of the others, responded, “Lord, to whom can we go?” You have the words of eternal life. We believe and we know that you are the Holy One of God.” Let us worship the God revealed in Jesus Christ.

OPENING PRAYER  John 6  (Unison)

Sharon Stewart - Liturgist

There is no one to whom we can go, O God, except you. We come to pray, to worship, to listen closely for the words you speak to us individually and as a community. Words of Spirit. Words of life. Bread of heaven, we are hungry. Nourish us in this sacred place and set aside time that we might be filled…filled with you. Amen.

BLESSING OF THE OFFERING

John 6 (Unison)

Gracious God, thank you for these gifts. We offer them to you, seeking your blessing, that they might be used to welcome all, and to inspire faith in our community. We offer our very selves, asking that we might become your faithful followers. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen.

CALL TO CONFESSION         Pastor Bob

Together as a community of faith, let us pray our prayer of confession to God together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

Gracious God of abundant love and forgiveness, we confess to you, that we have not lived our lives in a manner worthy of the gospel. We have grumbled and complained when things were difficult. We have been envious and greedy, wanting to be first, instead of generous and merciful, putting others before ourselves. We have walked far away from you at times, instead of running near to you. Forgive us, we pray, and renew our hearts. Help us to seek your presence continually. Amen.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Pastor Bob

God is with us in our struggles. God offers us understanding and acceptance. Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel…In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

BENEDICTION (John 6)         Pastor Bob

In these last weeks of summer, allow your spirit to be nourished by Jesus, who said, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. The one who eats this bread will live forever.” Offer to God your hunger, each day, and ask for the daily bread that you need. And may the grace of Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit fill you…and sustain you.

Depart in Peace...Amen.
