CENTERING WORDS (Mark 1)
What have you to do with me,
Jesus of Nazareth?
What have you to do with my joys
and my hopes, with my hurts and my losses?
Come with grace and mercy.
CALL TO WORSHIP (Deuteronomy 18)
Sharon Stewart - Liturgist
We’ve all heard and perhaps even said, “God really spoke through that person to me.” Who knows, you might even say it about me after worship? But it doesn’t just happen in church, right? It can happen at work, at home, in the community. On the telephone. Over the internet. Someone can say something or write something, and we sense that God is speaking to us through them.
There are many words out there. There are many competing voices. How do we know when God is speaking through another person? How can we tell when they speak God’s words, and not just their own? How do we discern who is faithfully communicating the word of the Lord to us? As we worship today, I invite you to think about who God’s voice for you is. Who does God speak through when God wants your attention? Let us worship together.

UMC Hymnal #127

Speak, Lord, into our ears, for we are ready to listen. Shine, Lord, into our hearts, for we are ready to receive. Come, Lord, into our worship, for we are ready to praise your name and learn from your word. In the name of Jesus, we gather, and in the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Lord, accept these gifts, given from the heart and from our desire to please you with the choices we make and the priorities we set in all areas of life, including our finances. May these tithes and offerings make a difference in our world, in the name of Jesus – feeding the hungry, clothing and providing shelter for those without, and working for justice for all people. Amen.

BENEDICTION (Deuteronomy 18)
This week, I encourage you to listen for the voice of God, as it might come to you, through other people with whom you interact – at work, at home, here at church and out in the community. Be attentive and listen … listen for God’s word and how it can make a difference in your life. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the nurturing presence of the Holy Spirit be with you always. Amen.
