We Gather as the Body of Christ
and Funny Story
CENTERING WORDS (Psalm 62)
God is not a taskmaster keeping track
of our good deeds. Rather, God intervenes
boldly and relentlessly for the purpose
of life and the restoration of creation.
CALL TO WORSHIP
(Psalm 62, Jonah3, Mark 1)
Sharon Stewart - Liturgist
Gathered in worship with silence and sound,
We wait upon God’s grace.
Gathered in worship with a focused heart and mind,
We anticipate the time we face.
HYMN: Trust and Obey
UMC Hymnal #467
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
(Unison) Sharon Stewart
Holy One, you have called us from the seashore to service in this world. You have pulled us from our comfort to embrace the inconvenience of servanthood. You have put before us an opportunity that we never truly wanted. Like Jonah, who resented going where you sent him, we are restless and resistant.
We’d rather sleep in a boat and go about a casual kind of life. We’d rather live our days as we always have and let the tides carry us where they will.
May the storms of our days shake us to new awareness and renewed paths of faithful living. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE Pastor Bob
Hear the good news! Before you turned to God, God was on watch for you. Before you remembered your sin, God extended redeeming grace. Hear these words: You are forgiven.
Thanks be to our God that stands watch over our very lives. Thanks be to God for the grace that meets where we are. Hear these words: You are forgiven.

We Gather at Christ's Table
INVITATION to the OFFERING
(Psalm 62) Pastor Bob
This is our time of offering, where we respond with gratitude to all that God has given us. Let us take a moment to consider what gifts we will bring and what commitments to action we will make this week. Give as you are called, and you are able.

BLESSING of the OFFERING (Mark 1)
(Unison) Pastor Bob
You call us to follow you, O Lord, and have set an example of generosity and compassion. We ask that you bless this offering – our tithes and gifts – that they might help us to reach out, in your name, and share the good news of Jesus. Amen.

BENEDICTION (Jonah 3)
Remember, God gives you a second chance, to be the man or woman that God desires for you to be. Over and over again, God gives us another chance, another opportunity, to be faithful, to be kind, to be compassionate, and to follow our call, no matter how challenging or even overwhelming it may seem.
May the grace of Jesus,
the love of God and the nurture
of the Holy Spirit be with you. Amen.
